Testimonials
"I have worked with Angus on a number of shows, and find him to be a calm, methodical and incredibly clear director/choreographer. He is exceptionally well prepared, but also allows flexibility in the moment when needed. As a previous professional performer himself, he has an in-built understanding of the actor's process, and is markedly considerate of the performer's time, scheduling rehearsals so that there is the least amount of 'sitting around' - highly valuable for an amateur actor's other commitments. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to any acting company as a Director or a Choreographer, or - if they are lucky enough - as both"

“A show is always in good hands with Angus. He brings loads of ideas to rehearsals and is happy to work through all of them. Rehearsals are well organised and respectful of everyone’s time. He is encouraging and supportive to cast and creative team members even when ideas aren’t working or individuals need a nudge to push through their own doubts or barriers. His main goal is always to deliver an engaging and heart-felt performance to a standard that is as professional as possible.”

"Angus first directed for BATS in 2015 and helped us deliver a vibrant and energetic production of Grease. We were very pleased to be able to welcome him back for Chicago where his flair for modern dance interpretation was particularly well received. Angus succeeds in making rehearsals fun whilst demanding the highest standards and expects dedication from all participants. The most notable observation the company has praised him for is the creative way in which he conducts auditions, manages to put auditionees at ease and works with them to fully explore the character. He enables all to feel they have achieved the very best they could on the day. Angus is amiable and is willing to listen to the company to develop a production collaboratively utilising the best attributes of all involved. We would certainly engage Angus again."

"Having worked with Angus on several shows i not only admire his work but have learnt so much myself. His passion for musical theatre is evident in his approach. He gets you to dig deeper into the script, find your way to connect with the character whether in a leading role or ensemble and expand your technique. His attention to detail is admirable and his choreography is refreshing!"

'“I had the huge pleasure of being directed by Angus in Priscilla Queen of the Desert. As a director, Angus is creatively ambitious, yet his attention to the minor detail is second to none. His rehearsals are always a safe space to experiment, to try new things and to learn from each other in order to maximise the potential of every actor in the room. Angus manages to strike the perfect balance between hard work and great fun, resulting in a constant buzz and enthusiasm during rehearsals, as we strive to make the best show possible! I would jump at any opportunity to work with Angus again!

"You always know an ‘Angus’ show when you see it from the three ‘Ss’ – it’ll be Stylish, Sexy and with a touch of Sparkle! I was first in a show choreographed by Angus in 2006 - City of Angels. Since then, I’ve had the privilege to become one of his long-standing creative partners, as a choreographer and assistant director on many shows he has conceived and directed.
Angus always starts out with a clear creative vision which he can share with infectious energy with a cast and production team, bringing everyone on board for the ride. He knows what he wants, but at the same time he is a collaborator and allows his fellow creative team members free rein to explore their own ideas and challenge his.
I’ve always noted (with some envy!) a particular loyalty and respect he inspires in his cast members, which results in an enormous desire on their part to work hard to please and impress him and make him proud.
And whilst Angus demands high standards from everyone involved in his shows, he never misses out the crucial element - fun! An Angus rehearsal room, whether with a cast of 25 people, or one-to-one working out some partner choreography, is never short of laughter.
In summary, Angus is a true creative talent, with a wicked sense of humour and a generous heart, which makes working with him immensely rewarding on so many levels. "

"Angus was appointed as director/choreographer for SAMTC's production of Saturday Night Fever. His direction and choreography was very creative and explained clearly and concisely, encouraging the cast to try new ideas and inspiring them to work to their full abilities. There was a real buzz at rehearsals and his enthusiasm was infectious and appreciated by all the cast and production team. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 restrictions the production was cancelled a few weeks before curtain up but I personally look forward to working with him again in the very near future."
